Beechenhill Farm is a working organic dairy farm located between Ilam and Stanshope, which also incorporates a B&B, self-catering holiday cottages, and small business units. The farmstead includes several grade II listed buildings

Bench Architects obtained planning and listed building consent for the conversion of an existing barn into new accommodation for farm staff or family members returning to assist in running the family business. The ‘upside down’ conversion required minimal internal and external alterations to the building fabric, and features open-plan living spaces on the upper level over compact bedrooms on the ground floor.

The successful conversion conserved and enhanced the special architectural and historic interests of the listed buildings and their setting, and assisted the farm’s owners to ensure the farm’s ongoing economic sustainability.
